5.09.2012

It's been two years (part two).

I played karate with some of my fave kiddos.
This is the lawn in front of the class photo.

I held hands with the dean.
#nobigdeal

I did a photo shoot for a friend.
Peals of laughter.

We gave Lianne a ride home.
She'll be in Seattle with us!

Then we had a nice meal at home:
I recreated our wedding meal with help from our wedding caterer.
Thanks @mattpoley for shipping us lasagne cupcakes on dry ice!

It's a Formal Affair.

Tuck holds 3 formals each year, sprinkling some reason to don fresh makeup and heels in this land of snowboots and down/fleece/wool wear. These formals have taken us to faraway resorts, museums in town, and tents during the warmer months. Last weekend, however, we attended an on-campus formal; taking place in Raether Hall, site of many Tuck events.

Me + Kellie.
She was in Jamie's first study group and we've become fast friends.

It kind of had the feeling of prom in a high school gym in all the positive ways: knowing exactly where the bathroom is, short commute, giving off the strong feeling of ownership and a sense of belonging. We had such a great time. While we still have 5 more months here, I'm already missing this place.

Here are a few photos from the night:
Awesome band, but check out that guy in the blue shirt.
He's like, "oh shoot, I kinda forgot my instrument...."

These boys are fun.

So are these boys.

Huge turnout for an on-campus formal.

Anne (T'11) lives in Minnesota while her husband Collin (T'12) finishes his 2nd year.
We like them.

I make funny faces.

We have one more formal left in May!

Keeping busy.

"What have you been doing while Jamie's practically on a three week vacation??"

I've been dog-sitting:
twice the walking, feeding, scooping.

Making a TON of leafy greens as someone doesn't appreciate them as much as I do:

mmm...dijon braised brussels

Cracking up at terrific television:
really into the office-wide holiday garb.

Packing up and mailing/delivering early holiday stuffs:

Receiving and modeling early Christmas presents:
 Thanks again, Jen and Jack!

Periodically email photos of gift ideas to Jamie:
gotta keep the luv alive, kanter.
:)

And scheduling online conversations with him like this:
jamie just getting up as i get ready to eat dinner.
surprisingly, he mentions nothing of the diamond earring email.

Otherwise, I'm working on several projects for Tuck, have hockey practice, book club, and lots of baking/making for the holidays! It's not as empty around here as I had originally prepared for and while it's a leeetle bit quieter, there are still plenty of gatherings to keep a girl very busy.

International Part-ay!

Tuck holds two international themed parties a year, giving the 30% of international contingent an opportunity to showcase their country's bites and libations (food & beverage). They both take place during big weekends where we welcome bundles of nonTuckies to see the school. This year seemed particularly involved for us as we were both involved in Admitted Students Weekend in the spring and Jamie was one of the 5 co-chairs to put together Tuck's Annual Diversity Conference.

Ken (scottish) and Gemma (british).
Gemma's only here for an exchange term and we're sad to see her go.

Both weekends help showcase the school, but Diversity Conference is an inclusive event for recruiters to connect with prospective students who are in the process of, or are soon to be, applying to MBA programs. The 5 co-chairs and their committees put together a weekend of student panels, alumni discussion groups, welcoming speeches/talks from inspirational leaders, mock classes with world renown professors, and offered several robust social opportunities in the evenings. But because it's so early in the application process, there are also panels on "How to get into an MBA program" and "What do I need to provide in my application?"

Our blurry friend, Ian.
He's a dual-degree candidate and is spending this term down in DC, completing his other degree.
Jamie gets super excited when he comes back to visit.

My personal favorite event of this particular weekend is the International Party. I didn't do a great job of taking photos this year, but trust me, it was a bunch of fun!

Edgar is a T'11, a new Tuck alum.
He was up in Hanover to give one of the speeches.

For photos from previous international events:
  • Trish comes to visit our first International Party incorporated into Tuck's Diversity Conference (November '10).
  • International Lunch is incorporated into Admitted Students Weekend (April '11)

Halloween Costume 2011

We dug around in our closets, costume box, the internet (to print stuff) and came up with a fun costume for the Halloween party last night at Tuck!

Cut up some fabric from my Frida-then-Scooby skirt.

Make a mess out of an old cardboard box.

 Yup. That'll work.

Busted out some man clothes.

Sewed up a bowtie (old curtain).
fyi: bowtie length is supposed to be 6" longer than width of neck.

Cardboard turned into something.

Found light up balloons! Perfect.
 Glowtastic.

Figured it out yet?

We were Mr. Fredrickson and Russell from the movie "Up"!

2nd Tuck Scavenger Hunt (part four)

Now that you know what everyone was wearing, you're probably wondering what we did in those costumes all afternoon. There were plenty of drinking games (water substituted for non-drinkers) such as boat races, flip cup, pong, shooting beer into a faraway pitcher then running to it and drinking the contents as a team, you know, the usual. We set up a saltine challenge and pizza (normal, just for eating, not a game) and there were lots of non-alcoholic beverages. And then there were these games:

Nerd battles Rubber Tuckie at cornhole.

Turtle sword-fights Hurricane Irene.

Super Tuckies prepare for dance off.

Nacho libres are limber at limbo.

a boxer girl (gloves left at start) carries a watermelon faster than a turtle.
engineering students are walking by quizzically.

people in capes wheelbarrow race.

aforementioned slip-and-slide race.

the french do jello-shots...while also doing pushups?
i don't think this was a sanctioned game.

super heroes and some guy in a tanktop race on miniature scooters.
look at jamie's shorts in the background. don't they look like normal shorts?

togas and pumpkins toss water balloons with increasing distance

dance off

waldo, mchammer, fro-guy race to eat donuts on strings (no hands)

which results in ridiculous images like this.

donut eating is my fave game.
i want all my friends with kids to set this up for their children.
like for EVERY meal.

And now we're done with all photos from the Scavenger Hunt!

2nd Tuck Scavenger Hunt (part three)

As I mentioned, first year Tuckies had to arrive on campus in team costumes.
Here are some of my faves:

the old ladies. they scared me.

These two couldn't stop cracking up about their own faces.

 Which came first?

Team futbol.

 scary pajama men?

 TMNT

 Arrriba

 Rubber Tuckies

 Total Posers.
I mean, really. Who did they think they were? Store-bought costumes? Ugh!

 Pacmen = so easy!

They didn't hurl themselves at each other and it bummed me out.

 Doctors, pulling a late shift.

 mc hammers

 painters

there was a team of bees and one beekeeper.

waldos are easier to find when there were 5 of them around!

 team cereal

 Hurricane Irene.
They kept walking around saying, "too soon?"

 Richard Simmonses!

 Flinstones!

Team nerd.
