Baking - Heart of Darkness Brownies.

Wowza, I told you this cookbook could be dangerous! These really should be called Heart Will No Longer Function After Consumption Brownies. They're totally/totally insane-o, muy delicioso, and I love them to pieces.

HEART OF DARKNESS BROWNIES
from Stick, Chewy, Messy, Gooey
Recipe numero uno from my new dessert cookbook.

The ingredients/tools. Melt butter + chocolate together, set aside to cool. Beat up 6 eggs (only after I broke them all did I realize I should have split the recipe in half). Add the sugars + vanilla extract. Add chocolate mixture to egg mixture. Sift in flour + salt. Mix it all up and stir in fixings of choice.
We didn't have snickers and other nut allergies led to the chocolate chip exclusivity. Bake for 20min and throw on a few marshmallows for 2min. Drizzle goodness on top and enjoy.

Some tips:
  • Definitely consider using cupcake liners aka baking cups. No matter how liberally I greased and floured, these suckers did not want to come out easily.
  • Don't overbake the marshmallows as they can get a bit tough. If you think they won't get brown enough, increase the oven temp before throwing the pan back in.
  • Restrict consumption to ONE brownie. They're killer.
  • Holly's right about 6 eggs not making 700 brownies. It just felt like waaay too much batter in a bowl to not have a solid plan to get them outta my home as soon as they came out of the oven. I recommend creating a plan, listing people to give these to before even starting the whole process.
  • disclaimer: i made these a couple of weeks ago! not within a few days of the banana bread.

oh my....this is pretty much my definition of heaven. I will absolutely, 100% be making these in the very near future. It will be worth any possible weight gain!

Thanks for posting such fantastically delicious ways for me to procrastinate from homework. (Then again, I'm currently procrastinating from my project on Dark Chocolate, so it's related, right?)

Hey! As this is the first recipe I have seen with a Heart of Darkness referencing name I had, of course been excited to make them. I am envisioning a modernist fiction themed party with these and Proustian madelines.
In any case, I just made these to take while tailgating with friends tonight at a Galaxy game. Maybe Posh and Becks will want to come and have one?!
I feel like I have self-imposed the 1 brownie rule as I have my first wedding dress fitting tomorrow. It seems like having two could be a disaster in light of the whole dress fitting thing.

those are amazing. i make brad brownies every week (best wife award?) but always from the duncan hines box. they are 1 dollar and the best mix you can buy. :)

jo - thanks for noticing the p.w.c. style! that's totally what i was trying to channel.

to all that think brownies cause weight gain - uh...don't try to break me out of my state of denial.

d - have no idea! i'm sure they don't, but i loved the flavor in these.

sarah mac - why are you the craziest girl i know? proust madelines?? ha!

And finally, what about throwing in chopped snickers into brownie mix, topping them with the marshmallows, and drizzling them with caramel out of the bottle (like ice cream topping?)? Would brad like those?
