Admitted Students Weekend - Round 2

It's been a full year since my first time in Hanover and on the Tuck grounds. Last year, exactly two weekends before our wedding, we headed 3,000 miles east to Admitted Students Weekend and I caught a glimpse of what the next two years of our lives would be like. Madness, I tell you, sheer madness. Being so involved in the planning of this year's event, I was not exempt from daily moments of sentimentality about time passed.

I'll walk you through some of the weekend activities:

Loads of prep work.
Least of which was filling mini fridges in all the dorms.

Incoming students can choose to stay (for free) with current students in the dorms if they're traveling alone, or can be put up in off-campus housing. We hosted a couple from Boston (she was doing the boston marathon on monday....eep!), but because of all the crazy activities, spent the least amount of time with them.

Happy faces greet at Tuck Circle.

Check in with these clowns.
That's Pablo from Argentina, one of Jamie's original study group pals.
We love him + his fam.

While incoming Tuck students go through mock classes and panels on student life,
partners get to attend sessions on Life in the Upper Valley and panels on OMGwhatamidoinginnewfreakinghampshire.

Then it was time for International Lunch!

40+ nations are represented by the Tuck students and each of them created food from their countries to showcase. Can I just add here that anytime you have the privilege to enjoy the work of a Latin American bbq showdown, JUMP at the opportunity. This event was similar to the international event Trish was able to attend last year; but on serious 'roids. Much bigger budgets for each nation and because it's a lunch, the dollars saved on booze gets to fund some amaaaazing foods. My faves:

I was responsible for the Townie Tour of Hanover for the partner group:
The wind picked up like crazy and it was freaking cold.

Pose in front of Baker Library + the bell tower that plays holiday music.
(during the holidays)

Swung them by Lou's where I had pre-arranged free samples!

Maple-glazed donuts topped with a strip of maple bacon.
Optional: maple syrup to dip.

Main Street, Hanover, is about 1.5 blocks long so the tour didn't exactly take long.
But I did take them into the Tuck-fave bar: Murphy's.

Where I had pre-arranged another sample of local goods:
shots of Long Trail beer at 2pm.

Nighttime activities included:
Hosting dinner for 11 people in our home.

Small Group Dinners entail getting to know a smaller cluster of folks by either dining out or having meals in each other's homes. You sign up either as a host or a guest and get randomly assigned to a group. During the more school year, you could host classmates, their partners, staff, and/or faculty. It's one of my fave traditions and we got to meet such fun people last year. During ASW'11, incoming students and current students congregated in our place to munch on lemony asparagus tart, make your own pizza, some lasagna cupcakes, and some peanut butter chocolate cake.

Jamie and I bartended the Tuck Pub Trivia Night and I believe he was sober monitor at some point.
Tuck Band + LNDP
(late night dance party)
