Snowmaggedon, snowtastrophe, and my favorite...

Snowtorious B.I.G.

Never mind. We ended up not getting to D.C. after all.  All the talk about massive snowstorms, 2 feet of snow falling in 3 minutes, threats of ice sheets, and closure of all things fun had Jamie and I running for the hills....or the airport, as it may be. The airlines are waiving change fees for the weekend and not charging the fare difference to get folks out of the area before the storm hits.  So instead of spending 3 days at the Dulles airport trying to get home, here I am; typing away from the comfort of our home in SF. We cut our trip short and got home late last night. Sad face!!

I know, I should say "happy face!", but as crazy as it may sound, I was actually looking forward to the madness surrounding the weather phenomenon. Participation with the masses!! Solidarity! Bonding with other humans trapped by mother nature! Hot Chocolate and snuggling indoors!

Truth be told, I was highly amused that I had to stand in line for 30 minutes at a "Harris Teeter" while trying to purchase a couple bottles of water and some cliff bars. Yes...very predictably....my amusement was mostly due to being in a place called Harris TEETER...but also because of the anthropological glimpse into the priorities people make in moments of raised panic. Sure, I saw people with the regular provisions of milk, eggs, and breads; but it was the multiple pies, 24 packs of beer, and BOXES OF FRANZIA that really had me cracking up.

"OMG, Honey. A Storm is Coming. Go Get the FRANZIA."

Snowpocalype had people in Virginia scrambling and closures are already scheduled for today and tomorrow. Our capitol tour probably wouldn't have happened and a trip to the Smithsonian? Probably more difficult when the whole building is closed.  Fine. But we got a cool connection with my college friend that works IN the capitol!! How cool would that have been? Oh, she'll probably be snowed in and probably wouldn't have been able to meet us tomorrow morning for our BELGIAN WAFFLE breakfast. Fine. Jamie was probably right to push our early departure. Fine. <---v.disgruntled.

Frustration!!

We also had plans to see Jo Daly and Declan today: walking around the mall, checking out the monuments, pushing each other down into the snowdrifts, frolicking...and there was even potential to grab her husband, Chris, away from his vagina-rotation (he's a doctor, you guys) to grab dinner tonight. Grrrr. Biggest Bummer.  Soooo bummed. Grrrr. <---v.angry.

Going to drown my sorrows in some football this weekend.

Need to go to the store tonight to stock up on SuperBowl fixins. On the menu:
  • Shredded pollo asado chicken nachos (winging it)
  • Tarragon bibb salad (made for Hanukkah and loved it)
  • Fruit salad (with whatever I can find)
  • Chocolate Caramel Cookies with Sea Salt (from our friends' food site! going to use fleur de sel)
  • Spaghetti Bolognese for late dinner (what better than a SBSunday to have a pot of simmering sauce on the stove?)
What are you guys making? Or doing?

ok, all joking aside, this storm is looking pretty serious: click here for storm warning.

and i love that you called out jo's husband's rotation. TOTALLY laughing.
