Greenifying the Kitchen

Senior year in college, home improvement tv shows treated us kind and as I recall, may or may not have contributed to some days of playing hooky from classes. More emphasis on the "may have" than the "may not have". Anyway, ain't it just so gratifying to know that at least SOMEONE has gotten something done in the 1/2 hour you've been sitting there, creating a larger dent in the couch? Well, since then, I've logged in many-an-hour watching endless amounts of time, watching other people do things to their homes. Still renting in SF, we don't have the liberty to knock down walls, redo cabinets, replace tile, or ANYTHING. I'm creatively limited, dammit. Sad face, middle finger.

our kitchen.
would love to replace cabinets, appliances, and tile.
and sink and blinds and, and, and, and.
excuse the clutter.

The other day, however, I decided enough was enough and I needed to get some paint on the kitchen walls. With Jen's help, a spunky verdant paint color was selected and custom tinted. She gave me guidance on all the tools I would need and with Jamie preoccupied with his officework, I dragged everything up multiple flights of stairs and threw it up on the walls. Once I was done, I was able to do the "reveal" and surprise him. Like my own personal Color Splash!

"sassy green" on walls.
"swiss coffee" on windows.

I LOVED the green, Jamie was happy with it, and it was a neat way to make a sufficient amount of change. Yay. And then.....without my permission or approval.....it changed. Over the course of a few days, the green became increasingly SASSY and difficult to look at in the morning*. Harsh and almost garish? Such a fun color, but just a bit too yellow? Fluorescent? Not sure how to define it and the difference was imperceptible in photos. Regardless, it was enough to send me back to Home Depot to pick up a slightly different color.

*I'm sure that, if asked, the walls would return the compliment. I have crazy morning hair.

Sad because the green apple color was so cute and looks great in photos. Just not as cute in person. Anyway, here's the redone color. I'm NOT going to repaint it. So, you're all going to say you LOVE it.

ok, still cluttered, but color is better?

i think the first green was the same as the green in our master bathroom (which is why it is now a lovely shade of blue). not good in either location if you ask me. the second is better. way to go :)

Am I in trouble if I say I can't tell the two greens apart? =D

oooh! We're paint twins. Swiss coffee is our ceiling and trim color throughout our freshly painted house!
I like the second green better too.

way to go! I love the green!!! And in all honesty, I also couldn't tell a huge difference between the two since the lighting was way different (look how much darker your cupboards look in the second one!) But huge improvement. I love seeing what your kitchen looks like too.....you know, like at night when you walk around and can see inside people's houses who didn't shut their blinds? (trust me, I'm not as creepy as that may come across. and don't lie, you do it too. I know you do!)

coincidence that your table runner + dish towels were already green? hmm didn't think so! pretty colour!

I'm a big fan of it. Great work. :)

Is it greedy to ask for more pics of your home life? I loved getting a peek into your world!
