So, you had a bad day...

What do you guys do when stuff goes crummy during your day or week?
Obviously posts about little asian boys singing Beatles songs with little asian accents are great for spontaneous cheer. Glad youtube and I can be there for you, debi!

In the past, I've been known to just hole up @ home, baking tons of dessert-y items, and being otherwise domestically productive (laundry, cleaning, crafting, recipe-searching, etc.). Lately, however, I've observed myself taking on the following Negative Nelly coping mechanisms; not as productive, and listed in decreasing order of socially acceptable behaviour:
  1. Call just about everyone I know and either (a) complain loudly about how I was miserably mistreated (b) force them to tell me distractingly funny stories about their own lives, getting frustrated when they're "not good enough". My poor sister had to put up with lots of these calls. :)
  2. Pick up a baked good. Screw making my own, dammit. I just don't wanna.
  3. Spend over 2 hours at Target (retail therapy, right?) and buy everything I don't need. Refuse to take tags off of these items once I'm home because I just know when I come to, almost all of it will have to go back. I got a kickass dress for $11.97 and it still didn't do it.
  4. Flop onto a couch, bed, or other such object with a loud, dramatic sigh. Second sigh gets louder if first goes without a reaction. Obnoxious, obnoxious behaviour.
  5. Drop off the face of the communication earth by tossing my cell phone in a corner and ignoring all incoming calls and texts; reading emails without responding; refusing to speak when spoken to. Let dinner invitations and shopping buddies fall by the wayside. Overall, be a bad friend.
  6. Curse A LOT. Like so much that I had to check myself, like, 17 times around baby jack. Luckily, the guy's a month old and can't understand the Auntie Leslie should seriously consider a career in sailing (speaks like a sailor?). I'm thinking about picking up "oh fiddlesticks" and "whoopsie daisy" in response to negative occurrences. Much cuter than the alternative.
  7. Throw things. Anything. At anyone. In any direction.
  8. Hit up my local liquor store before 2pm. Just kidding, but definitely thought about it. Doesn't help that it's a cute place that looks all sunshiney and daytime appropriate.
Luckily, I'm getting outta here this afternoon and won't have to even think about anything non-Devon and non-wedding. We're taking the next several days off to go live in Chicago for Devon+Patrick's nuptials! Hudson's staying with Gus (if only he knew, his tail would literally wag off), we won't be back until late Monday, and I already can't wait to tell you all the details. Does everyone know that the crazy couple has been keeping the location incredibly secret? I was hoping to get the inside scoop as her maid of honor, but NOooOooo. We all find out soon enough though, right? Exciting times, people, exciting times.

this trip will def get you in a better mood! while you guys don't really have "winter" out there, i attribute it to the winter blues and everyone so ready for spring to GET HERE ALREADY! have an awesome time at the wedding and please give devon a BIG BIG hug from me!

1 and 5. i'm all about 1 and 5. i have no one else to see my bad behavior so there's really no use in tantrums. the audience is the best part of them!

aw les. sorry you've been having 'poopy' days. want to hear something funny? jack had a (what michelle & dan call) 'live poop' at tara's today. i was changing his diaps, and he wasn't quite finished... just imagine that! then, to add insult to injury (of clothes & changing pad), he had a 'live pee'. yep, that's my boy!

Coincidence, you said Negative Nelly in your post and my post is titled Negative Nancy today :) And I'm definitely a retail therapy person. Mostly at Target. I also find comfort in junk food which I hear is bad.

i am a total junk foodie. bad days mean i can eat whatever the hell i want. no consequences. um yeah, unfortunately no one told that to my ass...

sarah's right no one to witness the tantrums means that's boring. but mom sure does get some fun phone calls! ah, the apparent joys of motherhood.

and target is so retail therapy. everything you need and don't all at the same place makes for some expensive shopping trips. especially since they have that awesome world market section!!

and it's about 10pm here... bet you are here!!!!! excited to see you and for this weekend!

I definitely hear you on the baking and/or junk food. I usually do more baking on lazy Sunday mornings though. When i'm super pissed is when i usually go for a run, not because it cools me off but b/c when i have a temper I have way more energy and don't feel sloth like as i normally do. oh, and when I come home and am in a pissy mood (i also live alone so tantrums are pointless) i can fully admit to making myself a drink. there's really nothing a good gin + tonic can't fix. but just one.

I definitely lose the phone and hole up on the couch. sorry you've been down...

here's a thought. quit your job and have a baby! you'll always have exhausted and at times frustrating days, but never ever bad ones. :)

i never answer my phonecalls.... is that bad?!?!?!? i also clean and launderize and shop at target! i should leave the tags on, but i figure if i take them off right away, then i HAVE to keep it.... suckaaaa!!! have fun this weekend, can't wait to read about it!!!!
P.S. is it okay when i talk about your blog, that i go ahead and just call you my friend, instead of this girl i blog stalk. cameron gets mad when i say you're my friend, but we met ONCE at Lo's wedding (and maybe my summer at cayuga????)

same question; i've adopted the vocab that you're a friend, since you're dev's good friend and i got to meet you and we played accidental footsie at the viceroy... i'd rather not qualify you as a friend of dev's whom i met once who has great hair and a cute dog whose blog i read...

i partake in all of those things :) anytihng to lift spirits! have to pack, see you tomorrow a.m.!

liz, you tell cameron to shove it. we're friends whether he likes it or not and the next time he's mountain biking, i'll be waiting in the brush to push him off balance. only when he's standing still though, not when he's actually moving. that would scare the sh*t out of me to watch him fall while in motion. unfort, we haven't me in person yet, but never say never! i was there the summer before you.

and court, of course we're friends. you're ridiculous. :)
