Back-to-School Pictures

NEVER enjoyed picture day @ school.
who knew i'd end up with a blog one day, posting daily photos of myself, huh?

Oh man. How cool are these PHOTOGRAPHERS?? I mean, way to go, folks. Way to reinvent an old school tradition, making it more fun and pleasurable and terrific! I.am.so.into.them.

And yet another reason for us to birth and relocate to NYC. Ok, maybe just relocate. not birth. No birthing going on around here. Hmmm...no relocation plans in the near future, for that matter. Maybe just another reason to visit? Oooh, I wonder if Stomping Ground would be creeped out if Jamie and I scheduled a couple of appointments for ourselves. :)

Dear Sarah,

I'm so sorry to confuse you! The bbq event took place in New York's Madison Square Park; a park easily reached by the N and 6 lines of the NYC subway system. This was the logo for the event:
So, they took the main pig logo, threw on the subway lines, renamed it Madison Square PORK, and I thought the design was so cute, clever, and still simple. The fact that Jews are typically supposed to stay away from all things PIG makes it double-y funny to me.

I hope that adds some clarification for you!

30 Rock Rocked!

Are you guys all watching 30Rock with as much fervor as I am? Tina Fey has certainly had quite the run the past couple of years, but for whatever reason, I've been super delayed on catching this HILARIOUS programme. An error on my part, as it has quickly risen to the tops of my list. An error on my part for which I am slightly grateful; thanks to Netflix + earlier seasons being available on DVD!

We'll have something to do if Hollywood decides to strike again.

If you're watching this show, AWESOME for you. We should chat. If you're not, try it on for size tonight! The hilarities are simply terrific and priceless.

Happy belated valentine's day!

HIGHLIGHT OF NYC TRIP and happy monday!

Last summer, when Jamie was on a boys' trip gallivanting around New York, he sent me a pixtext highlighting a gaggle of teen girls PILED AROUND around a building in midtown. The caption read something like, "Could this be a Jonas Brothers sighting??? Oh wait, NO. Just a freaking new Abercrombie + Fitch opening. Are they serious??"

He was infuriated for days and for the past 6 months, has continued to vent about tourists traveling to metropolitan areas only to hit up a store they could find in their local suburban supermall in Minnesota or Wyoming or something. ((nothing against those states)) And as a point of disclaimer, we definitely went into an H&M clothing store....there are probably 6 locations within 4 miles of our home in SF....hey man, i needed a $3 beanie!

It's become an ongoing joke though, one we try to let in as many people as possible (because we really think we're hilarious). Literally, every time we see a group of tweens, we keep our eyes peeled for the next A+F store and/or the band-group-boys-actors-whatever-the-JB-claim-to-do. We're so incredibly "cool" that we don't know what the freaking Jonas Brothers are about. It wasn't even until this year that we figured out what a Hannah Montana was. We're hip. We're cool.

Caracas Arepas NYC (Food Review)

As is relatively common in this household, the Food Network was blaring in the background one night as we were passively planning our weekend getaway to Manhattan. This particular evening, Mr. Bobby Flay was serving up a Throwdown to a cute pair of Venezuelan girls in the East Village! Perfect. Eyes glued to the set, we salivated at the grilled corn cakes filled with braised beef, black beans, cotija cheese, avocado slices, and fried plantains. We scrambled to google the restaurant and added what seemed to be a spectacular meal to our list of MUST-DOs and now, as quickly as possible, add this place to YOUR list of must-dos!!

I'm a huge fan of open kitchens and watching these beautiful arepas come to form was just heavenly. Wafts of deliciously fried plantain bananas, warm corn cakes...ahhhhh. The balls of bready balls were patted down and slapped onto a steaming griddle, sliced in the middle, and packed with all sorts of yummy goodness! They're crisy, warm, and somehow neatly filled with pretty scoops of fresh avocado, creamy cheese, and absolutely devine spices. I didn't even pause to look at the tableside sauce until one bite left and immediately regretted my ignorance. Jamie, on the other hand, had about 1/2 his arepa left to continue to enjoy the mini container of magical sauce.
