Crafting - Freezer Paper Stencils (part 2)

We totally ran out of time to throw down a crafting project @ Jen's baby shower, but since Tara and I stuck around for the after party, we decided to go ahead and make like 14 onsies in one sitting. I had completed some samples at home a few nights prior (conveniently needed them in 2 weeks anyway), printed up a bunch of images to trace, cut out freezer paper swatches (purely for convenience), and Jen stocked up on fabric paint + brushes. This project is so fun, you guys! More on shower later.

Step One: Trace and Cut Image out of Freezer Paper (shiny side down).
Mommy-to-be
Step Two: Mix Paint if Necessary. The fabric paint selection was pretty thin so Jen got acrylic and some Fabric Acrylic Medium to make it feel less crusty on the shirts.

Step Three: Iron Stencil onto Material (again, shiny side down) and Throw on Some Paint. Step Four: Wait for it to Dry then Peel off Stencil. Step Five: Display Work with Pride.

Some helpful tips:
  • Iron on a piece of freezer paper on the inside of garment to prevent paint from leaking through.
  • Fabric paint is ideal. The acrylic medium helped a bit, but really not as great. Might be worth mixing your own colors if you can't find any you like at the store.
  • WAIT until the paint is dry.
  • Darker colors on lighter fabric seems to be the best combo. Shows off the crisp lines more and that's kinda what makes the whole thing look more professional and less hand-made!
Onsie attack!
I'm off to Phoenix for a few days for work. 6am flight tomorrow morning. Ugh.

i was just taking pics of all the onesies -- didn't know you had one!?! finished 'heat setting' them, separated into sizes, & stocked baby's room... they are too cute for words - pete loved them! thanks again!

when you get back, send me all the pics you have - some of my loyal blog followers aren't into the blogging world & won't look on my friends pages... plus, i have scrapbooking to do! less than two weeks to get crafts accomplished!

good luck with the early/late flights ;)
