Crafting - Holiday Stockings

I'm hoping to build on this post once I'm able to better modify these three stockings, but here are the preliminary steps. Should be easy enough and now that I think about it, making them with paper would allow annual variety and would be sooo eco-friendly!

1. Cut out a pattern or template the green way - use old shopping bags. I made one regular and one LARGE pattern, but if I were to do it all over, I'd make both a bit fatter at the top. Oh, the better to fit more packages.

2. Take the two sides of material you're planning on using and fold so both pretty sides face each other. Trace the pattern on the back of your material then cut about 1/4" outside of traced line (you'll sew ON the line so it's important to have a bit on the edge). I tried picking out the most modern-y looking pattern, keeping in mind that anything overtly Christmas-y wouldn't be fun for Jamie and that anything too Hannukah-y wouldn't be apropos for me. 4. Iron on interfacing to back of each piece. FYI, interfacing is this slightly thicker material that you can iron onto the pretty stuff to change its texture. They make some that you have to sew in, but I think it's easier to work with the iron-on stuff. I chose a stiffer type to make the fabric a bit more durable for heavier items (high hopes) and I think it's what makes them look like they're actually made from paper.
5. Sew around, but leave top open.
6. Attach a loop so it can hang on the mantle.
